We traveled about 2 1/2 hours by car to visit some boating friends in Southport, NC. Southport is tucked away just below Wilmington and the mouth of the Cape Fear River and just 45 minutes or so above the South Carolina state line. Several movies have been filmed in Southport. ”Crimes of the Heart”, starring Diane Keaton, Jessica Lang and Sissy Spacek was filmed at the Northrop House. An Oprah Winfrey movie, ”The Wedding,” and ”Summer Catch” are a few more.
We ate at the Fishy-Fishy Café. It is called Southport North Carolina’s sizzling, waterfront dining experience. Eating outside on the decks the views were beautiful, the birds were calling for food but there is a sign that says “Don’t Feed Da Birds!”
We visited Oak Island and were able to see the Atlantic Ocean, I always love that view! Bald Head Island is a Ferry ride away. Good food, great friends, what a great way to spend the day.
On the drive back to New Bern as we were driving through Wilmington, NC we spied the USS North Carolina Battleship. Another trip another day.
